abstract = "This paper shows a methodology for landcover mapping using MODIS
(Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) data. The study
area is located in S{\~a}o Paulo state southeast of Brazil. The
daily surface reflectance product (MOD09), with 250 m of spatial
resolution were used. Seven images of dry season were selected due
to low cloud cover. The Linear Spectral Mixture Model was applied
for each date resulting in the shade, soil and vegetation
fractions images. The landcover mapping map was produced after on
the segmentation based on region growth algorithm and ISOSEG
classification. Post classification image edition was performed
for improving map quality. The final map included seven classes:
Forest, Reforestation, Restinga vegetation, crop land, open water,
urban area and others. The landcover map was compared with
official vegetation map produced by the Instituto Florestal de
S{\~a}o Paulo. The map accuracy showed a good agreement with 0.76
kappa statistic. The result shows the potential of the methodology
for landcover mapping in regional scales.",
